Mazatlan Jan 9 to 17

Well, we finally left La Paz and headed over to Mazatlan.  The passage across the Sea went well, we had good wind for part of the trip and the wind vane worked beautifully.  This piece of equipment was a royal pain to install but when the wind blows and this little fin on the transom steers you where you want to go it makes it all worth it!  Unfortunately, when the wind died we learned that the autohelm (steers the boat under sail and when there is no wind and the engine is running) was not working.   And as the wind stayed at 1.5 knots or less this meant hand steering..... I was glad it was only for one night and half of the next day.  At 9am we spotted the coast of  Mazatlan and there was a lovely breeze that took us the rest of the way along the coast to "Old Port".  It was a great anchorage and we had a lot of fun checking out the old town and the waterfront.  The boys loved the hikes to El Faro (the lighthouse)  the best and found all the shortcuts!! The cuts in the rock from the water runoff! Needless to say, I did not mind taking the long winding way as it was very steep and lots of steps up to the top.

The view made it all worthwhile!
